My career ended after 6 active years in the National Football League. Now, I am left with lingering pains from injuries and multiple surgeries, like many guys who played in the league. Some of these guys are worse than I am, many with replacement joints and many times more surgeries than I had.
My thinking and suggestion is; as much money today’s players are making in the National Football League, does it really make sense for a player to continue playing beyond the 10 years? As far as I am concerned, 10 years is enough, there should be some kind of an agreement for this. This will give way for many kids coming out of college to also get a chance to play in the NFL.
I know many football fans and even players will frown at this idea, but have in mind that this is a violent game, and playing beyond the 10 year mark simply is putting lives in danger, as we see in today’s former players like myself. These days, I live with titanium rods attached along my cervical and thoracic vertebrae’s, bone one bone on some of joints including both knees. Mind you, I am not complaining, I’ll do it all over again, playing in the NFL is an opportunity very few players get to enjoy. But we have to continue making the game safe.
